In Our Fitness Era!
This summer, one of our ongoing assignments has been to visit each of the Rec Centers in the county to take surveys of their outreach and marketing materials, so we wanted to take a moment to highlight these special facilities and how they are contributing to our community’s physical, mental, and social health!

Not only do the FCPA Rec Centers provide fitness classes, lap lanes, and places to lift weights, they are also community hubs, providing a place where people can gather, meet others with similar interests and gain access to educational resources. They have a diverse range of programs which cater to different community members, including seniors, children, people with disabilities, and many more. Rec Centers help improve the mental and physical heath of both individuals and our community as a whole.
So far, we have visited Cub Run and Providence Rec Centers. We were surprised at the wealth of resources at Cub Run – it has nature trails and nature education, lap lanes, a gym, an indoor water playground, fitness classes, courts, childcare and summer camps. One of the highlights was meeting Cub Run’s most famous resident – Claude the turtle. Claude is a red-eared slider who used to be someone’s pet before he became the foremost nature educator at Cub Run. He will soon be joined by a corn snake named Lyra. Claude and Lyra are adorable examples of all that can be discovered at FCPA rec centers. After visiting with Cub Run’s resident reptiles, we were able to see the new childcare area, which is a great resource for parents because it allows them to take advantage of the amenities at Cub Run while feeling confident that their children are being cared for and enjoying themselves just a few rooms away. We also loved the indoor water playground and definitely wished we had brought our swimsuits!
Later in the week, Emma visited Providence Rec Center, which is in a lovely, wooded area and has lots of amenities, like pools, a poolside spa, indoor courts and camps. Emma also got the chance to meet with and get a tour from the fitness director. Her conversation confirmed what we have been realizing all along – everyone who works at FCPA is passionate about what they do and are more than willing to help in any way possible.
As the summer continues, we are looking forward to visiting all of the Rec Centers within the county. We can’t wait to learn more about how they are helping residents achieve their physical, mental and social wellbeing goals from the amenities provides within each facility!
