If you’ve ever visited Frying Pan Farm Park, you’ve likely met Jeff, our strong, hard-working Belgian Draft horse with a heart of gold. Since 2016, Jeff has been a cherished member of the Frying Pan family, arriving alongside his teammate Charlie – who sadly passed away earlier this year – to pull wagons, harrow fields and bring smiles to the many families who visited the farm. But now, as he turns 17, Jeff is preparing for the next chapter in his life—a well-deserved retirement in a forever home.

Jeff’s legacy at Frying Pan Farm Park is nothing short of remarkable. Born in 2007, Jeff has spent nearly a decade working tirelessly, often pulling more than his share of the weight. Whether he was plowing fields or giving families a scenic ride around the farm, his dedication and gentle nature shone through. Jeff’s work ethic and strength, paired with his calm, easygoing temperament, made him a favorite among visitors and staff alike.
But as all great workers eventually do, Jeff is preparing for a new role—a quieter life where his skills will be put to an entirely different kind of work. Frying Pan Farm Park staff, in collaboration with the Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park, have been in conversation with Boulder Crest Foundation, a nonprofit organization which specializes in helping our nation’s veterans. In January 2025, Jeff will be moving to a perfect forever home where he can continue to make an impact—not by pulling wagons but by helping veterans heal and rebuild through equine-assisted learning.
While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye, we’re thrilled at the thought of Jeff moving to a place where his calm demeanor and strong presence will be put to good use, helping those who have served our country. Jeff may be retiring from his physical work on the farm, but he will continue to serve in a new, meaningful way—offering comfort, grounding and teamwork exercises to the veterans who need it most. Jeff’s contribution to Frying Pan Farm Park will never be forgotten, and we are so proud to see him step into this new role, continuing to bring joy and healing to those around him.
As part of this transition, the Frying Pan Farm Park team, along with the Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park, is also launching a fundraising campaign to purchase a new team of horses.
