Leveling the Game: Greendale Golf Course Unveils New Forward Tees

This spring, Greendale Golf Course is rolling out eight new forward tees specifically tailored to golfers with shorter drives. The updated tees aim to provide an optimal landing area for the average woman’s drive, enhancing the overall golfing experience at Greendale.

Founded in 1973, Greendale Golf Course initially featured forward tees at 5,456 yards. In 2015, the National Golf Foundation (NGF) Consulting Firm identified challenges with the existing forward tee length. Additionally, players have noted that due to the length of the forward tees, the distance was just too long. The distance affects score, playability and the overall joy of the experience.

In response, Golf Fairfax took the progressive step to add shorter tees at Greendale. Recognizing the increase in female golfers since 2019 and their evolving needs, the course transformation began in October 2023.

The new forward tees, spanning 4,923 yards, align with the USGA (United States Golf Association) recommendation of a tee yardage less than 5,000 yards for an 18-hole course. The shorter tees will create a more enjoyable and accessible golfing experience for all golfers with shorter drives, including women, juniors and beginner golfers.

Greendale Golf Course serves a wide range of golfers from juniors and beginners to scratch golfers. For more information on Greendale Golf Course and to book a tee
